Autographed handwritten Christmas card (4"x5½”) signed
‘ Dutch’, no place, no date. Note written to Lydia Hupfer ‘Hup’
McArthur, widow of radio station program director at WOC in
Davenport, IA, who gave the 21-year-old college grad his first
job in 1932. Message reads: ‘Dear Hup / Thank you for your
kind words. Nancy & I are pleased about your new friend.
Give her our regards and let yourselves both have a “[printed
message]” Hup – my prayers are on a daily schedule as you
say yours are/ Well you are in those prayers of ours and now
Dottie will be also. We wish you both a very happy ‘Christmas’.
My memories of you will always be warm & happy. All my
love – Dutch.’ Tiny brown stain in blank area, minor smudges

Extremely historic piece on Vice Presidential note card
(6¼”x4") written to ‘Bruce’ Card, with blue border and the
embossed seal of the Vice President of the United States, reads
in full: ‘Friday, Sept 2 83 Dear Bruce, I write this from AFII
our vacation interrupted by the Soviet shoot down. Thanks for
the beautiful picture of Wallen Point – It hangs happily in our
living room. I tried to call today but 646-2756 produced some
semi-irate guy and “info” was not helpful. Please tell George
Carpenter how much Barb & I like his work. All the best –
George Bush.’ Bush was referring to Korean Air Lines Flight
007, which was destroyed by a Soviet jet the day before, with
the loss of 269 lives, including 61 Americans. Light stain at
top of the first page is mentioned for accuracy. Fine.

Martinez, Johnson, AND Satchel Paige

Braves beat Phillies 6-0. Nice ball with
strong signatures. Fine to very fine.

HANDWRITTEN GOLF NOTE, SIGNED ‘GB’ ... PH $750-1000
Neat card (6¼”x4¼”), with brief note from Bush regarding
Ryder Cup Tournament. Dated Aug 20, 1999, written to Harold
[Wiesenthal, Houston, TX], on card featuring vignette of the
Bush home at Walker’s Point. Note reads, in full: ‘I’m sorry
it’s so hot down there. Thanks for sending the shirts. They
haven’t arrived yet but I’m sure they will soon. Again, you are
too kind! I will be at the Ryder Cup – probably for all 3 days
so be sure to say ‘Hi’ Warm regards – GB.’ Very fine. (JSA

Group of 12 collectible 5¼” mini-square flannels, known by
the American Card Catalog as ‘B18 Blankets’. Issued in 1914
wrapped around several popular brands of tobacco. Key players
in this group includes: Zach Wheat (HOF, blue background
variation), Rabbit Maranville (HOF, white background), and
Chick Gandil, of Black Sox infamy (white background). Other
players include: Nap Rucker (x2), Larry Doyle, Roger
Peckinpah, Ivy Olson, Chief Meyers, Jeff Sweeney, Hub Perdue,
and Harry Covelski. Condition VG-EX or better.
Neat card (6¼”x4¼”), with brief note from Bush, sending
thanks for presents sent to him for his 72nd birthday. Dated
June 19, 1997, written to Harold [Wiesenthal, Houston, TX],
on card featuring vignette of the Bush home at Walker’s Point.
Note reads, in full: ‘You are too darn much. I love my birthday
presents. Those pants are unbelievably great – the rest of the
things wonderful, too- Thanks. Warm regards my Friend.’ Card
is laminated, along with transmittal cover (overall size 6½”x9½”)

Pete/Best Wishes’, signed ‘Eddie Stanky 1985’. Edward
Raymond Stanky (1916-99) nicknamed ‘The Brat’, was an
American League second baseman and manager in Major
League Baseball. He played for the Chicago Cubs, Brooklyn
Dodgers, Boston Braves, New York Giants and St. Louis
Cardinals. Fine to very fine.

COMMUTATION AS GOVERNOR ................... PH $1500-2000
A document on State of Arkansas Executive Department
Proclamation letterhead (8"x13"), whereby Bill Clinton commutes
a life sentence for murder as governor. Carbon copy commutation
reads, in part: ‘Whereas Sandfort Wilborn, A.D.C. 55301, was
convicted in Columbia County, Arkansas of the crime of Murder
First Degree and sentenced on October 22 1963 to a term of life
imprisonment in the Arkansas Department of Correction; and
Whereas, the Board of Pardons and Paroles recommends that the
sentence of Sandfort Wilborn be commuted from life to parole
eligibil ity...’ Signed boldly in black by Clinton and Paul Riviere,
Secretary of State Dec. 8, 1980 and notarized faintly with the
State of Arkansas seal. Very fine and fascinating.
