PH $1500-2000 Handwritten letter from notorious organized crime figure Meyer Lansky, signed simply ‘Dad’. On notebook paper, dated November 23, 1970, he writes to daughter Sandra and son-in-law Vince Lombardo in North Miami, Florida, about the weather, some bank transactions and wondered about any ‘checks from Sam Garfield on the Watson Wells’ regarding some oil investments. Lansky had recently fled to Israel to avoid arrest; he applied for citizenship but was denied and deported back to the USA in 1972, and was arrested. His son-in-law Vince would be arrested soon after receiving this letter. Original Dan Hotel envelope with stamps included. Very fine. (University Archives LOA). Four typed letters in Hebrew, one signed D. Ben-Gurion, one written to him regarding home building in Israel and whether to include representatives of the Cooperative Management of House Owners in a government council meeting on construction; final two are rebuttal to the request on Medinat Israel stationery. PH $4000-5000 Three page handwritten draft by David Ben-Gurion, not signed, in Hebrew, measuring 6½”x8½”. In blue ink, several corrections and cross-outs noted. Appears to be notes related to an upcoming political speech or article. Very fine. Full translation included on University Archives LOA. 756 1966 MENACHEM BEGIN SIGNED LETTER ..... PH $400-600 Typed letter signed M. Begin, as member of the Israeli Knesset, one page, 6"x8", dated September 13, 1966, on letterhead of the Knesset, to a Mr. Baruch Werkstal of the Freedom Movement Party. Hebrew text reads ‘Please accept my thanks for your attractive proposal. To my great regret, I cannot accept it, but I very much appreciate your having contacted me. With best wishes for a Happy New Year.’ Very fine. 757 / 1966 ZALMAN SHAZAR SIGNED FIRST DAY COVER .................................................................. PH $100-150 Cacheted first day cover for Brazilian stamp, issued July 18, 1966, to honor the State visit of President Zalman Shazar of Israel to Brazil. Shazar signed in blue ink below bilingual cachet, stamp at left with official first day cancel. Very fine. PH $400-600 Excellent multi-signed Menachem Begin lot including candid photographs. Typed letter signed ‘M. Begin’ in Hebrew on Knesset stationery (6½”x8¼”) dated 1975. Contents mention Zionist propaganda abroad and the homecoming of Jews to Israel, with original envelope signed ‘M. Begin.’ (2) Calligraphed formal Shana Tova card of Menachem and Aliza Begin, one page cover stock (5½”x3½”) including original envelope signed ‘M. Begin’ in Hebrew. (3) Ten color photographs (4¾”x3½”) of Begin’s 1977 visit to Tanenbaum Center. Letter has the usual folds and verso of photos have mounting remnants, overall fine condition.
