raise funds for the Nepal Earthquake disaster and once again I am pleased to announce that members raised a total of £ 15,944.16 and as agreed by the Pratinidhis , we rounded this figure to £ 20,000 . Jitubhai our president is working with Sewa International with a view to supporting the Akal Vidiyalaya – a £ 500,000 building project . We will update you on the final outcome . We thank all the members for your generosity .
General Update : We held three Trustees / Pratinidhi meetings including AGM this year as well as individual sub-group meetings . There have been many phone conversations and e-mail correspondence with branches and elected officers . Details of all the sub-committees ’ achievements can be found in their reports .
The Way Forward : The Mahila and Seniors activities are extremely popular and there is a definite demand for these and SPA ( UK ) officers are keen to build on this . However this may be in jeopardy going forward if we don ’ t have the volunteers coming forward to take on the responsibilities .
As for the youths , I am saddened by the lack of young people coming forward to participate in youth activities . Over the years the youth team have tried numerous new initiatives in the hope of attracting and meeting the needs of the modern generation , i . e . River Thames cruise / dinner , beach outing etc , however there has been very little interest . We have requested the young generation to provide new ideas , but again there has been very little response .
However I remain positive and optimistic , and feel that this decline is temporary . I am sure our young people will start to take an interest in Samaj activities and return when the time is right for them .
So until then , it ’ s over to the Seniors to continue the good work !
Finally , I would like to say a big thank you to all the trustees , sub-committees , Pratinidhis and branch members for their support , to Ranjanaben , Dhirubhai my assistants and Shashi my husband who has supported me throughout the year .
As I have mentioned in my opening statement , I have resigned , however there is no-one coming forward to take over and to avoid total shutdown I have tried to do my best to support Jitubhai , our President to manage the day to day running of the Association . I truly hope that some-one will be brave enough to come forward and take over and take the Samaj forward .
