Introduction
Shree Prajapati Association (UK) is both a modern and traditional
leading organisation. We were established in 1975 some 40 years
ago in England, but our roots and tradition go back to the early 1930s,
when our pioneering forefathers knew that without education and
commitment to helping and supporting each other, our community will
not progress from the everyday toil they faced. I am sure, like me, you
are grateful to your forefather’s for making huge sacrifices so that we
today can have a better life.
“Shree Prajapati
Association –
International Trust
Fund (SPAITF) has
been a huge success for
our community
in India.”
During the year, I learnt that
Prajapati as a community in India are
classed as “underclass”, and as such,
bright students from our community
who are lucky to secure a place, are
support by the Indian government
by providing assisted places in
colleges and universities. However,
the SPAITF committee also found
that even these families still need
financial support, not much, but
they need around £100 per year.
The fact that we are classified in
this way has been an ‘eye opener’
for me and I hope for many of you
also. To be honest I did not expect
this to be the case, but it is true and
I feel sad, that we can’t do more for
our community back in India to help
them with their education.
Shree Prajapati Association –
International Trust Fund (SPAITF)
has been a huge success for our
community in India. This humble
trust programme was formalised
following an “endowment gift”
from our past Nairobi fund trustees.
SPAITF has gone from strength to
20
strength in the past 8 years and this
is evident from the applications we
are receiving for education support.
During the past year we received
an unprecedented number of
applications, over 50, all deserving,
but with limited funds available to
the committee we still managed to
support a good proportion.
The challenge for SPAITF committee
is to find ways to (a) keep the vision
and spirit of our forefathers alive
by enhancing the education grant
programme and (b) to find ways to
encourage our community members
to give regular donations to SPAITF.
The SPAITF is committed to
ensuring continuity of the
education support initiative, to
help our community members
in India and in England to better
educate themselves and become
more economically prosperous. In
summary we want to ‘reach out to
one’ and ‘support one’, and we can
do that with your support here in
England.
