Another year has passed and we, at Luton branch, have been keeping busy. On the evening of the 9th December 2013 several members of our Samaj went out with Smiley Sam to help raise funds for the Keech Cottage Hospice. It was a pleasant evening, as the weather wasn’ t too bad and we managed to complete our area within a few hours. |
We’ d like to send out a big thank you to those who helped on the night; Anand, Arun, Dineshbhai, Pushpaben, Ushaben and our driver for the night, Bharatbhai, as well as Kirtiben for co-ordinating with the organisers.
This year’ s SPA children’ s outing took 10 children aged between 3 – 12 years to see Cinderella at the Luton Library theatre. One child from the group was also picked to sing-a-long with the cast. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime which was performed by Luton’ s Griffin players.
For the best part of a year we have been collecting funds to donate to charities;

another one this year has been the Luton Food Bank. As they only accept food as a donation, Ashockbhai, the Branch Treasurer, went and purchased some items they required and then delivered the food to their warehouse. The delivery was made on the 14th March 2014. |
Another event some of our members took part in again this year was the Race for Life. This time you can hear about the events from one of our younger members:
‘ This year, we had 7 ladies walk the 5K track at Stockwood Park, Luton on Sunday 22nd June. The temperature was soaring, into the mid 20’ s, but even the intensity of the heat did not affect us, meaning we finished in a fantastic time of around 58 minutes. All participants enjoyed themselves and a total of £ 480.66 was raised for Cancer Research. Thank you to all who sponsored us’- Parisha Mistry
We had yet another successful beach trip to Great Yarmouth on Sunday 20th

July 2014. We sold 42 tickets out of the allocated 53. The Theobald coach was extremely comfortable and clean, and Bollywood music was provided by Reena Mistry.
The group of people on the coach were very jolly and happy, and there was lots of fun and laughter. It was really nice to see all the lovely ladies sharing the home made food for the journey. We were spoilt by lots of variety and taste.
The day itself was filled with fun and laughter. Relaxing and playing on the 2p machines trying to win all the prizes in the arcade was a highlight. The weather was very kind to us, sunny all day and not a drop of rain. The traditional Seaside food went down very well too. The rain only started on our return journey. We hope to have another great day out by the seaside next year.
It has been a good year so far, and the events we have coming up should keep our momentum going.
