The Second Seniors Samelan was hosted jointly by Birmingham and Walsall on 1st June 2014. We are so pleased this event is now rising in popularity and is well attended by our senior members from all our branches. Even more so, the seniors are full of smiles and eagerness, making the overall atmosphere on the day joyful and full of laughter. The programme began with prayers, arti and Swagat Geet. A unique announcement then followed involving the past SPA( UK) post holders as a mark of honour. They were presented with certificates, and the couples who had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary( or more) were presented with flowers- what an achievement. The compere, Taraben, explained how weddings were performed in the olden days in UK when there was hardship and only a few in numbers. It brought back forgotten memories from those years. This was also illustrated with a small play where a‘ so called priest’ carried out a marriage ceremony, and the audience participation was encouraged by singing lagna geets for the couple on the stage. The hall was filled with laughter and song as everybody joined in. Delicious lunch soon followed. With restricted facilities at the Mandir and a large number of attendees, generous time was allocated so that everyone enjoyed a relaxing lunch and could chat

with fellow members. The afternoon treat consisted of live music; classic songs that everyone sang along to. Natubhai Tailor took his place on the stage and truly entertained the audience, recalling past events and putting his spin on it. The day ended with the raffle draw and it was left for the Committee to say a big thank you to Walsall branch and Birmingham branch for their sincere hospitality. Both branches were focused on this event and they worked very well together. Hopefully, going forward, we will see more interaction between all the branches. Events such as these are our way of providing sewa to all our members. Long may we continue to provide true sewa from our heart.
