MAHILA REPORT
This year’s Mahila Samelan was about variety OF
entertainment and audience participation
Namaste and Jai Shree Krishna
This year to say the least, has been
the most challenging for the Mahila
Committee. Since Ranjanaben and
I took over as Mahila Secretary and
Convenor from April 2013, we have
had an incredible year. We have had
fantastic support and help from our
assistants Pushpaben, Dakshaben,
Shardaben and Pravinaben from
Tameside.
Following her election, Ranjanaben has
worked extremely hard bringing a fresh
approach and great enthusiasm to her
role and responsibilities.
Our first involvement was with the
Family Fun Day at Wicksteed Park
in June 2013, which turned out to
be a really great event. Helping out
at the Seniors Samelan in Leicester
was hard work and the Sports Day in
Loughborough was also an eye opener
for us seeing how many participants
took part in various sports from all the
Branches.

Mahila Samelan – 13th April 2014
The 34th Mahila Samelan was held in
Leicester, hosted by SPA (UK) Mahilas
where all 14 ladies from the different
branches were involved in organising
preparations for the day’s events.
This year we decided on a different
approach and rather than have a topic
based event, we focused our ideas into
making this more about a variety of
entertainment and involving audience
participation. Bearing that in mind,
we invited men to our event this year
too so that they can get an insight into
what the Mahila Samelan is all about.
As everyone arrived, the morning
sunshine promised a beautiful day.
Breakfast was served as members
met and greeted each other. Once
everyone was seated, the day’s events
began with prayers and welcome from
Hansaben who then handed over to
Ranjanaben and Gitaben to host the
day’s programme.
The morning session comprised of
Swagat Geet (Leicester Branch),
Bollywood dance item (Coventry
Branch), a very funny and entertaining
comedy drama “1970’s Nau Jamano
Ane Sasu Maano Japato” (Bradford
Branch). Nainaben from Gayatri Parivar
was welcomed and performed ‘Samukh
Sadhana’ inviting the audience to join
in with the Prathna. Rugby Branch
organised an ‘SPA’s Got Talent’ themed
item where 3 volunteer couples were
called on stage. The husbands were
asked to see who could roll the fastest
rotlis, drape a sari onto themselves,
etc. The audience thoroughly enjoyed
this.
Hansaben, SPA (UK) Secretary
presented her speech ‘Who is SPA
(UK)?’ She said how proud we all
should be of raising such vast amounts
of money for charities.
Then a blind food tasting game
was organised by London Branch.
