Denis remembers fondly of many trips with her parents to Banff, Jasper and Drumheller where her father (now deceased) was from. In the mountains she finds peace and has brought her grown son Adam (a Toronto radio station DJ) back to the same spots she used to walk with her parents.
Taking it easy is frankly not easy for Denis with so many demands on her time. But she absolutely loves what she is doing both on radio and television. In an industry that discards on-air talent on a whim, Denis has managed to survive. She is in her 30th year co-hosting the morning drive program with Roger Ashby. "That's a long time with one man," she laughs and mentions her mom thought it lasted so long, 'Because you didn't have sex with him!'" For Denis she relishes doing the show and the relationship with Ashby is like brother and sister - you argue but then you laugh about it.
Denis is in a happy place now with The Marilyn Denis Show after more than 1,000 episodes (surpassed in November 2015) on CTV. It endured some growing pains at first like any show but now is in a comfortable spot and she isn't afraid to try new ideas. With the mix of celebrities, personalities and just regular folk Denis enjoys just chatting with people. "I always say to people, 'If there is something you don't want to talk about, don't worry, I'm not going to talk about it.' I don't want late breaking news - I want a conversation." Stevie Nicks, chef Jamie Oliver, Christopher Plummer, Andrea Martin are all favourites that Denis has interviewed.
Going to a spa that has a strict regimen or detox diet is not Denis's idea of a good time. Gee Beauty in Toronto is her favourite spot for facials and other treatments. She is a big fan of pedicures, facials and massages and has had many beauty care and wellness experts on her show.
Being in the public eye so much Denis prefers when she does have that rare down time it's in private or just entertaining in her pristinely clean and organized house. Sunday is her chill out day. Other than an occasional brunch with friends she prefers to stay at home, relax, catch up on some domestic duties and of course - watch some football and her favourite Steelers team.
What's next for Denis? For her it's simple. "Staying healthy. Watching my kid grow and become the broadcaster that he is. Being a good sister and a good mom, that's what it's all about." She plans to continue with both the radio co-hosting and TV show and waving the Steelers infamous "Terrible Towel" for many years to come.
