HI Monique,
Congratulations on opening a spa and even more so for wanting to think outside of the box. I am happy to share a few ideas I have with you. When you are considering a resort spa you have to keep in mind that is set amidst a social environment and many of your guests won’t be regulars as they are there on vacation. At best you may see them once a year if they do come back. Of course there will be some customers from your area, but for the most part you’re going to be servicing vacationers.
I think aesthetics will play an important part in your spa for manicures and pedicures. Will your resort accommodate weddings and or bridal parties? If so, that will direct your aesthetics area and how many stations you should have. Also, body treatments – like scrubs and massages – are certainly important. Be sure to have rooms that can accommodate them in a quieter area. Don't forget that babymoons are a big event at a resort; mommy and daddy’s last chance before the big event.
But if you want to have a unique ‘station’ or draw that makes you different, you might want to consider a ‘serum bar’ where guests can sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a coffee/tea while they try on different lotions, creams and serums. Here they will experience your retail products, try them on, wipe them off, see and smell. This can be so fun and it is very social too. Even the guys will want to see what it is all about. It is a perfect area to sell retail through and if someone didn’t have a facial they get to at least try some creams and lotions that they can buy to take home. This is the perfect venue if you want
to sell custom skincare too. Facial bars were popular a few years ago and this is taking this idea and putting your own twist on it. The best part is you want your clients to have fun and a great experience at your spa. Good luck with your new venture.
