A two-hour drive with two BFFs is exactly what this lady was looking forward to for my weekend away. Sherry was driving
my car and I was sitting in the back catching up on emails and such with Kathy up front co-piloting.
Chatting and laughing we did not pay any attention to the gas gauge and I bet I haven’t run out of gas since I learned to drive and guess what? Yup we came to a slow halt. So 45 minutes later CAA came to our rescue and we were once again our way, laughing in disbelief that at our age we ran out of gas!
Would the spa ever believe us that we were running late for that reason? Our first stop was the Spa Rosseau located within the JW Marriott Hotel located on the edge of Lake Rosseau. Spa Rosseau is a member of Leading Spas of Canada and is a full-service luxury spa. As I walked into the spa, reception was chocked full of great products and items that every spa girl at heart will want to checkout after her treatment.
As I checked in I met Spa Director Maria Micu who gave me a brief tour and told me all about the treatment I was having called the Spa Rosseau Holistic Ritual. It is a signature treatment as it is customized for every individual. I was given a few ‘Breathe’ brand aromatherapy oils to choose from and I made my choice with tea tree oil in it.
As Maria explained, "We choose certain oils our body needs at that particular time." My scent appealed to me as I was fighting the remains of a cold at the time. Sarah was my spa therapist and came to get me and take me to my treatment room. There are separate areas for men and women, plus dedicated couples' facilities at Spa Rosseau.
The spa is extensive, with eleven treatment rooms including a Vichy room for hydrotherapy services. The Salon at Spa Rosseau offers hair styling and makeup consultation. The spa is very busy in wedding season and caters to many brides, and bridal parties. There is an additional nail area for pedicures and manicures. The spa offers a plethora of treatments ranging from signature treatments like I experienced as well as body, face, and Vichy water therapies, treatments for men and couples experiences, the staff are top notch and treat each guest like a valued friend.
“In the winter time it is so beautiful as everything is covered in white, you can see so far and you can see small cottages on the islands, the view is breath-taking,” Maria Micu.
I entered my spa room and it was lovely with a large bathtub as well. My treatment was a dry brush to get rid of all the dry skin and I felt Sarah was put to the test! She then applied a lovely body scrub that really gave my skin a complete makeover. I then relaxed in a wonderfully warm tub and got to rinse off the scrub at the same time, now this is living! Afterwards I got back onto the massage table and Sarah used that aromatherapy oil I chose and gave me the best full body relaxing massage. Honestly, I didn’t want to get up.
Sarah ushered me back to one of the lounges and I got to see the view, an incredible Muskoka view that thousands enjoy every day or weekend looking out to Lake Rousseau.
The lake anytime of year is so wonderful to look at with the rocks, water and trees, especially the birch trees that dot the perimeter. Sigh…. as I munched on my spa snacks and sipped my herbal tea. All spa guests can enjoy the private outdoor swimming pool in summer and there are separate men's and ladies' relaxation lounges.
A little later on I got dressed and I went out to the reception area to peruse the spa products and take in some pretty cool ideas and items. You can extend your experience and stay at the hotel as they offer packages and can accommodate your needs. My immediate need was to hang out as long as possible before I had to leave and that was the best part – they don’t rush you here, even if you did run of gas and arrive!
