inter can be extremely harsh on our skin, especially those of us who are already prone to dry skin. There are millions

of different products out there promising to cure all our skin problems ranging from inexpensive drug store products to high end beauty boutique creams. But how do we know for sure they work, and furthermore do we know what the ingredients are in all these products that were slathering on our bodies day and night?

As I get older I really try and pay attention to what I'm putting on my body, and knowing that everything we put on our skin goes INTO our blood helps me remember to be mindful. In my spare time I'm a bit of a skin product mad scientist. I like to try and make my own natural, organic beauty products and I recently came across a recipe for Solid Lotion Bars that are going to change your life, as they did mine.

They are made-up of only a few ingredients; these lotion bars are solid at room temperature. Once you pick them up and rub them around in your hands they start to melt into a-fast-absorbing oil, which you then rub all over!

My favorite thing about these bars is that you end up using the entire product!

No more throwing out 1/4 full pump bottles because you can’t pump anymore out. This is something you can easily make in your kitchen (as that’s where I make mine) and have ready to use lotion bars in less then 20 minutes!

Ingredients:

1-cup coconut oil

1 cup Shea butter

1-cup beeswax

1- vitamin E capsule (or 1 tsp)

Any essential oils you like to scent your bar with (or leave them unscented)

Silicone cupcake tray (or any mold or shape works but ensure it is pliable)

Method:

Put your coconut oil, beeswax and Shea butter into a large heatproof measuring cup and use that to make a double boiler. Turn your burner on and bring a pot of two inches of water to a boil and set your measuring cup right in the pot so it sits right in it. Turn heat down to a simmer and stir your ingredients constantly until they are completely smooth and melted. Once melted, remove the measuring cup from heat and add your essential oils and vitamin E. Stir gently until the essential oils and vitamin E are mixed thoroughly.

Carefully pour into your silicone molds. Allow the bars to cool completely before trying to remove them. I usually put them in the fridge if I want them faster and that’s it! They are lovely smelling, all natural body lotion bars! You know every ingredient you put in them, how cool is that!

Generally you don't want to keep natural products for more then 3-6 months but I guarantee that won’t be a problem, as you will be using these babies all day and night!
