Dear Mary,

I own a spa and would love to cater to weddings like bridal parties but I find them very disruptive to my other components of my current spa business like massage therapy and facials, we need quiet in the spa. Can you give me any ideas or perspective on how to get into this market without compromising my current business?

Thanks

Heather G., near Ottawa, Ontario

Hi Heather,

The wedding business can be very exciting but challenging at the same time. I can certainly understand that your spa business is your bread and butter and should never be compromised. At the same I think what you are saying is ‘You want to grow it’, which is a great idea. You should always be growing and attaining other markets. So think of this, “Do you have an area like a mani/pedi area that would be suitable to set up a bridal area?” If so then use that for your new bridal business. If not can you create one maybe near the lobby/entrance to keep the noise near the front of the spa. Can you offer bridal services one-on-one like a pedicure and foot massage in a massage room? The ladies won’t all be together but they will before and after the treatment. The other thing you have to keep in mind is do you have enough staff to accommodate four to six or ten people at a time? Also if you don’t have any sort of area that can accommodate a bridal party what about offering bridal services after hours like as an exclusive party.
