Institution of Psychology
Coming out of school my first job was working in an institute of psychology dedicated to art done by children. Much like a counselor of psychology it was my job to understand the children, not based on what was said but on the ways they were expressing themselves in the art they created. I love children and art so it suited me very well, working in such atmosphere was very exciting and pleasing. Seeing children express themselves through art was a treat to watch and also a great chance for me to gain experience with children and working. Although I was attending Graduate School at the same time and creating my own pieces it was always a pleasure to see the children and connect with them beyond just talking to them. Within my job I was able to read the child’s mind and understand how they felt and what they were thinking. I felt a great deal of responsibility to care for the children and connect with them and make them express themselves in a positive manner. This job allowed me to feel a great deal of responsibility for all the work I did, not only at the time but also about all tasks given to me. I was able to truly grasp the essence of responsibility through this experience. In many cases I talked with the parents of the children and explained to them how their child was progressing. This allowed me to understand how to express myself as a teacher to the parent but also as a friend to the child.
