a helping hand to runners
For the third time, The People’s Race will be providing a Runner’s Village, for runners who are in a
situation where they cannot afford accommodation the night before the Soweto Marathon.

to circumstances beyond their control, be it economic
reasons or disadvantaged backgrounds. To reduce their
burden, the organisers will be providing accommodation
to 600 runners, to enable them to be part of the race.

atering for 600 athlete’s on Saturday
2 November 2019, at a brand new venue,
the Orlando West High School in the Vilakazi
Precinct, in Soweto the village not only provides runners
with a safe space to sleep, it will also provide them with
meals and transport to the start of the race.
Soweto Marathon Trust Chairman, Sello Khunou says
that this part of the race is undoubtebly the most heart-
warming; “Over the years the Soweto Marathon has
attracted many runners from all over the country and the
world, and we have realised that a certain percentage

With this year being the biggest edition of the race yet,
a Runner’s Village becomes even more vital to ensure
runners coming from outside of Johannesburg have a
fantastic race experience without the stress of financials.
The last two years have proved incredibly successful in
doing just this and this year will be no different as the
Soweto Marathon Trust works to provide this essential
service.
