Texas

As the water begins to warm, Lake Conroe north of Houston is a

great place to catch hybrid striped bass using both artifical and

live baits. Topwater action lures are a great choice in the

morning when the bass are surfacing. Bass will often follow

schools of shad.

Hiking is very pleasurable in the comfortable March temperatures.

Davis Mountains State Park would be a great place to hike this

month, with its beautiful desert mountain setting in far west

Texas. Davis Mountains also offers 7 miles of equestrian trails in

rugged and scenic Limpia Canyon.

The only open season in March is Light Geese, which can be hunted

until the 24th. Always check hunting seasons and regulations at

(512) 389-4800.

Many bird species can be seen this month at Caddo Lake State

Park. This is your last chance to see the Whooping Cranes at

Aransas National Wildlife Refuge before they head back north.

Lovely Days and cool nights means great camping this month.

Goliad State Park would be an excellent choice. With rich

history, a variety of bird life, and fun on the San Antonio River, it

would make a great weekend getaway. It's only 93 miles from San

Antonio, and 130 miles from Austin.
