13 Southwest Highways & Fields

Utah

In the far southwestern corner of Utah lies Enterprise Reservoir.

April is a great month to go down and hook some nice size

rainbow trout.

Cedar Breaks National Monument near Cedar City offers trails

that traverse many different landscapes. High Alpine meadows,

rocky canyons, and amazing views can all be experienced on a hike

at this park.

The spring turkey hunt begins April 15.

Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge has 18,000 acres of oasis

habitat that attracts many migrant species of birds. Off the beaten

track, it is best for intrepid birders with a scope. 11 miles of roads

provide access to much of the refuge while some hiking trails and

bird blinds allow closer looks. Biking and kayaking are allowed. Mid-

April begins the migration season. Call ahead for road conditions.

Now that things are warming up, do you have camping fever?

Antelope Island State Park has spots to pitch a tent, park an

RV, or even camp with your horse. The park is located on the

largest island on the Great Salt Lake. Water recreation abounds,

the geology is very interesting, (containing some of the oldest

and youngest rocks in the state) and you can watch the bighorn

sheep and bison.
