Managing Emergencies

The Office of Emergency Management works to prepare the City of Southlake , its partners and emergency responders to mitigate catastrophic emergencies by utilizing principles of preparedness , response and recovery . The OEM continues to increase the emergency response capabilities of the City of Southlake in various ways .

Emergency Response Plans

In 2016 , the OEM began a year long process to update the Emergency Operations Plan which provides a general overview of City emergency procedures as well as functional annexes detailing elements of the City ’ s response to emergencies . The City will move to an ESF format modeled after the National Response Framework . This will help foster more robust emergency planning within every level of city government .

Stop , Listen , Take Action !

In FY16 the Office of Emergency Management introduced two new mobile outdoor warning sirens to provide an additional layer to our existing comprehensive warning capabilities . The sirens are the first of their kind in North Central Texas , and will address a key vulnerability in Southlake : mass notification at outdoor gatherings .

Facilitating Safety & Security

Working in collaboration with the Southlake Police Department , the Office of Emergency Management was able to develop and implement a new citywide special event planning structure that supported many of the City ’ s events with over 50,000 attendees . The new planning structure facilitates improved safety and security during mass gatherings .
