No. 302
One of the principal types of Western art will
be studied, from its origins in classical antiquity
to the 20th century. We shall examine the
idealised landscapes of Claude and Poussin,
the naturalistic representations of 17th century
Dutch painters and the changes brought by
Constable, Turner and the Impressionist masters.
Reasons for the continuing popularity of the
genre will be discussed, together with the
different techniques used through the centuries.
