The State Fair promotional department itself rates fair food as the top thing to do at the State Fair and , well , who are we to argue . “ We have everything you can imagine , battered and tossed in the deep fryer ,” the marketing mavens say , noting that a handful of vendors have been about since the 1950s . Ben Ellen Donuts started in a tent in 1952 with its cinnamon-sugar cider donuts . Trudy ’ s Dairy World ice cream is homemade by the Hlay family and has been since the 1950s .
Other activities topping the list are carnival rides , livestock shows and concerts . This year , concerts vary from record producer and rapper Lil Jon to country singer Travis Tritt who has charted more than 40 times on the Hot Country Songs charts , including five number ones . Hinton Railroad Days 2024

Celebrate 150 years of the C & O Railway in this small but charming town , the seat of Summers County down Route 20 off I-64 . This year ’ s event will have dozens of vendors ( more than 80 last year ) and – one of the featured showcases – two stages of live music in the heart of downtown . Last year , the festival hosted 24 bands which played on the Town Square Stage in City Park and on the Rivertown Stage on the corner of Second Avenue and Ballengee Street .
This traditional West Virginia festival is one of the premier events of its kind in the state , and its three-day run attracts thousands of visitors to the region each fall .
Craft vendors will present one-of-a-kind handmade goods and the Hinton Railroad Museum will be open and featuring model train layouts and information on the proud heritage of railroading in Hinton and the New River Gorge .
It is preposterous , of course , to narrow a list four . But these are the ones that , we believe ,
