Take the boardwalk . Outside the parks , the overlook view of Sandstone Falls along Route 20 is terrific . See the falls up close by taking the 0.5-mile roundtrip boardwalk that leads to the base of the falls . Head to Hinton and jump on New River Road headed north for 8 miles .
