ADASH brings eco-friendly flair to Highland

shley Olsen, a single mother and
Highland native, is bringing one-ofa-kind furniture to Highland at her
new store, ADASH Upcycled Furniture
and Décor, on Route 299. Under the
watchful eye of her boss and daughter,
Adriana, Olsen has been upcycling furniture for the past five months since she
left her sales job to find a new profession
that merged her love of painting and her
desire to find a job that balances work
and parenting.
“I always wanted to own my own deli,”
said Olsen, who mentioned growing up
in her grandparent’s deli in New Paltz.
“Never did I ever think I would ever end
up doing this.”
“It was the craziest thing I’ve ever
done,” she continued.
Olsen said she has been painting since
she was a little girl thanks to her grandmother, who often encouraged her to
explore the arts. She is part of a family
of entrepreneurs and artists who have
all encouraged her creativity. Over the
years, locals may have seen her paintings
featured in New Paltz and more recently
in a gallery in Westchester. When a furniture project for a friend took her painting to the next level and sparked some
local interest, she saw an opportunity to
explore this new business venture which
marries painting, recycling, and affordable furnishings.
