Under the watchful eye of her boss and daughter, Adriana, Olsen has been upcycling furniture for the past five months since she left her sales job to find a new profession that merged her love of painting and her desire to find a job that balances work and parenting. “I always wanted to own my own deli,” said Olsen, who mentioned growing up in her grandparent’s deli in New Paltz. “Never did I ever think I would ever end up doing this.” “It was the craziest thing I’ve ever done,” she continued. Olsen said she has been painting since she was a little girl thanks to her grandmother, who often encouraged her to explore the arts. She is part of a family of entrepreneurs and artists who have all encouraged her creativity. Over the years, locals may have seen her paintings featured in New Paltz and more recently in a gallery in Westchester. When a furniture project for a friend took her painting to the next level and sparked some local interest, she saw an opportunity to explore this new business venture which marries painting, recycling, and affordable furnishings. “For me, [painting] is just so peaceful OFFICE: 300 Stony Brook Court Newburgh, N.Y. 12550 Continued on page 4 Unique furniture pieces can be recreated but never duplicated at ADASH Upcycled Furniture and Décor in Highland.
