Chris Gibson [R-Kinderhook] paid his first visit to the Milton train station and was impressed with what he saw. He told members of the station’s foundation that what they have achieved so far “is truly remarkable. I am also very encouraged by your vision going forward. You’ve already brought this a significant way; you’ve faced some marked adversity with the storms and didn’t quit.” Gibson believes the station would be a “really strong candidate” for approximately $100,000 in funding that is needed to complete the outside lead abatement and painting work of the building. He said his office would assist in the application process, with consideration given to what projects have been successful in receiving funding in the region in the past. By MARK REYNOLDS [email protected] Last week Jack Maguire, Chairman of the Lloyd Environmental Conservation Council, honored Russ Faller of the Adirondack Mountain Club with the 2015 Lloyd Environmental Stewardship Award. Maguire said the annual award is given “to someone or some institution that we feel has done an outstanding service to Lloyd in terms of helping us preserve our environment.” He said the stewardship awards program is now in its 20th year. Maguire said the award to Faller “is very special…and is long due him because he has been helping Lloyd for 10 years, especially in heading up the Black Creek cleanup in May.” Maguire added that Faller also organizes many canoe and backpacking events for his club. Faller offered his thanks for choosing him for this award. WWW.SOUTHERNULSTERTIMES.COM “I think it’s a great honor,” he said. “I think the creation of the Black Creek Water Trail is a great idea. I was involved with it at the beginning when we were clearing it out for the first time. It’s a wonderful thing to have in the community. It brings people to Highland to canoe or kayak in the creek and go into town and have lunch. It’s a great economic boost and a great recreational source for people to get outdoors and do some healthy activities.”
