After three years on the market, the
Town of Marlborough recently received an
offer of $380,000 to purchase the TOMVAC
building that had originally been listed
at $420,000. The town’s attorney drew
up a contract for the sale that has been
forwarded to the potential buyer through
the real estate broker.
Supervisor Al Lanzetta said the town
has not yet heard back from the buyer to
see if he will be asking for any contract
additions or revisions. If the terms are
ultimately acceptable to the Town Board,
they will then vote on selling the property.
He said by town law the sale is subject to
a permissive referendum, meaning that
if 5% of the town’s residents who voted
in the last gubernatorial election were
to sign a petition to not sell TOMVAC, a
measure would go before the voters to
decide if the sale shall proceed.
Previously, the Town Board voted 3-2
to sell the building, with Lanzetta and
Councilman Howard Baker voting to
keep the building and Councilmen Scott
Corcoran, Alan Koenig and Ed Molinelli
voting to sell it. Lanzetta said nothing has

changed since that vote, with the three,
“dead set on selling it.”
Lanzetta said he is still ambivalent
about the sale but he expects that a
formal resolution to sell will soon be
before the board.
Lanzetta said the board is exploring the
cost to erect a new recreation/community
center at a site near the baseball field at
the High School. It could partially be paid
for with the net profit of $350,000 from
selling TOMVAC [after legal and closing
costs] and utilizing a $250,000 grant that

ensured that all students were provided a
