Marlborough to lease town land for cell tower

The Marlborough Town Board held a public hearing
on a long-term land lease agreement with Florida-based
Lloyd receives

Tarpon Towers to build a cell tower at 1650 Rte 9W. The
site was the former location of Town Hall and is presently
used by the Highway and Water Departments.
Supervisor Al Lanzetta said Tarpon Towers will pay
the town $1,500 per month with an increase of 2 percent
annually. There is also a revenue share of $350 per
additional carrier, along with a $10,000 bonus to the town
at the beginning of the lease. The lease is for 45 years but

Recently the Town of Lloyd received
a grant for $673,000 for sidewalk work in
the hamlet area of town. The town will
add $50,000 to this that was previously
earmarked for this work.
Last August the town submitted a
grant application, stating that they wanted
to construct ADA-compliant sidewalks
and crosswalks, to update their existing
sidewalks and crosswalks and to add way-
finding signage between the Hamlet and
the Hudson Valley Rail Trail.
The grant application states that,
“These improvements will increase the
safety and accessibility for all residents
and visitors and will spur economic
development in the Hamlet’s downtown.”
A total of 1,600 feet of sidewalks is planned
and they will be five feet wide in order to
meet ADA requirements. “The project
will also include the installation of 25
ADA compliant ramps with detachable
warming pads, which will provide for
safe transitioning from the roadway
to the curbed sidewalks. There are 17
existing signalized crosswalks that will be
improved with slip-resistant brick pavers
to assist people with impaired vision. The
aesthetics of the brick pavers will add to
the charm of the Hamlet and improve the
visual quality of the streetscapes. These

Last week the Marlboro School Board
approved a $58,363,438 budget for the 2019-
2020 school year, which is $1.47 million
higher than this year. The amount to be
collected in the tax levy has increased by
$907,337 to $35,686,305, and is right at the
statutory tax cap limit of 2.61%.
A public hearing on the budget is
scheduled for Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.
at the Marlborough Town Hall, 21 Milton
Tnpk, Milton. The budget vote itself is set
for Tuesday, May 21 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
also at the Marlborough Town Hall.
Residents will see an estimated tax
increase in the Town of Marlborough
and Plattekill of $321 with Basic Star
and $255 with Enhanced Star. In the
Town of Newburgh the increase stands
at $288 with Basic Star and $268 with the
Enhanced Star.
The district noted that in 2018-19 the
levy increase hit 2.46%, but in the years
2015 through 2018 there have been levy
decreases ranging from -4.26% to -0.81%.
