ast week the Highland Town Board
presented Casey Rosen with a Town
of Lloyd Community Pride Award
for building a pedestrian foot bridge
across a creek beside Mile Hill Road that
connects the Hudson Valley Rail Trail
down to the Highland Landing Park on
the Hudson River. His project was the
final requirement for him to receive the
rank of Eagle Scout.
Supervisor Paul Hansut recalled
meeting Rosen for the first time.
“When you came in last year and
you presented your idea, I have to say I
was a little bit skeptical but you did an
absolutely astonishing job of getting your
project done and bringing it to light,” he
said. “In today’s age with some of the
direction our youths are going in, it’s
fabulous that your part of our community
and that you were able to do this and we
want to recognize you for that effort. So
thank you and congratulations.”
Rosen said he appreciated the
recognition from the town, adding that,
“this is the greatest project I could have
ever hoped for.” His project planning
book grew to 208 pages with documents,
diagrams and drawings on every aspect
of his bridge.
Rosen said when he was approached
about this project it appeared, “that it
was a pretty daunting project and a really
big project. It was something I’d never

it, it was really something, a wonderful
experience and really, really fun. It was
something very memorable for me.”
Rosen thanked his parents and the
friends who turned out to help him with
the project.
“I especially want to thank [Highway
Superintendent] Mr. Klotz and Mr Litts.
They were always ready to help me,
always out there answering my phone
calls if I ever needed them; really a
pleasure to work with them,” he said.
Rosen reserved a final thank you for
Peter Bellizzi and everyone at the Hudson
Valley Rail Trail.
“Mr. Bellizzi has been there in my
troop since my beginning days and he
is head of the Rail Trail Association
and I really look forward to the whole
community getting the benefit of my
bridge and this new trail that the Rail
Trail is creating, so thank you.”
Bellizzi said Rosen, “did a wonderful
job and now that Central Hudson is done
with their power lines, I can bring the
path down to it.”
