A public hearing on this law has been set for July 19 at 7 pm at the Town Hall, 12 Church St., Highland. The Town Board would set the fee for the license at a later date and a 30 day compliance period would take effect, if adopted. WWW.SOUTHERNULSTERTIMES.COM The bridge carrying State Route 32 over the Thruway in Plattekill will be closed from July 6 to December 21, during which time the New York State Thruway Authority will replace the overpass. The town board said the bridge is the original overpass built when the state was constructing the thruway in the 1950s. Not only will the bridge be replaced, but the new overpass will be taller than the original. Some board members noted cases when large vehicles have hit the bridge. The town supervisor said the Department of Transportation has stressed the overpass is “not unsafe” at this time. The state maintains Route 32, while the Thruway Authority owns the bridge. The authority awarded the bid of $4.8 million to Harrison and Burrows Bridge Construction. The bid includes the replacement of the overpass in addition to the rehabilitation of the bridge on Union Avenue. The preliminary plan calls for road- side message boards on Firehouse Road, Orfeo Road and the southern end of Church Street.
