Social Officer President Ed Bozydaj , of the Milton Engine Company , said planning and running their annual cocktail fundraiser is a team effort . For the past 11 years they have held the event at Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa in June .
Bozydaj said they have a silent auction and a live auction with several items that people bid to win . This year there were two handmade tables and a photographic print by Vivian Lanzarone , with each winning bid at $ 200 . He said this is the biggest fundraiser of the year where they raise between $ 8,000 to $ 10,000 .
“ It supports a lot of firematic functions and we also do donations to local ventures ; like we put something into rebuilding the dock a couple of years back and this year to the Hamlet of Milton Association to help them with the vehicle to water the flowers so they look beautiful ,” he said . We also give out several scholarships to graduating seniors .”
Bozydaj gave special thanks to Robert Pollock , proprietor of Buttermilk Falls Inn , for allowing them to use the grounds . He also thanked his wife Janine , who is the President of the Ladies Auxiliary , saying , “ They are a big part of this event and help to organize and lay out all of the silent auction items . She has a small team but it is a good team of ladies .”
Chip Kent assisted in the planning , which usually starts in January , with some outreach to local businesses . “ But to be honest it really comes together in the last two weeks ,” he said .
Kent credits the Bozydaj ’ s for doing , “ a tremendous , tremendous amount of work . I can ’ t say enough .”
Kent said although several weeks out they only had a third of the tickets sold , “ the public just shows up .” He estimated that more than 200 people attended the event .
“ People love it and it ’ s a really nice event .” he said .
A handmade windmill stood out among the silent auction items .
Kent pointed out that Buttermilk Falls donated some expensive items for the silent auction and their chef , “ brought down a boatload of food .” He said this coupled with the use of the outdoor tent represents a significant donation that Buttermilk Falls makes to their fundraiser on an annual basis .
“ If we tried to do this at the fire house it wouldn ’ t look anything like what is it now ,” Kent said .
As always , the Joe Carozza Jazz Trio provided the soundtrack for the evening .
