Plattekill prepares for a celebration
By STACIA DONALDSON
Celebrating America’s birthday
doesn’t have to end on July 4. The Town of
Plattekill is gearing up for its annual Red,
White and Blue celebration. This year,
the celebration will be held on July 13 at
Thomas Felton Park, with a rain date set
for July 14.
Fireworks will begin at dusk.
Veterans Memorial
Receives Donations.
The Plattekill Veterans Committee has
received two sizable donations over the
past month. At the June 19 Town Board
meeting, Sis Morse, Chairperson of the
Plattekill Veterans Committee, shared
that Karl Holmberg had graciously
donated $500 to the Town of Plattekill
Veterans Memorial Fund.
Supervisor Joseph Croce shared a letter
from the Southern Ulster Rotary at the
Plattekill Town Board’s July 3 meeting
stating that a $500 donation was received
by the Plattekill Veterans Committee
from the organization.
Park Expansion Project
Prepares for Future Donations
Though presentations and surveys,
the members of the Thomas Felton
Park Expansion Committee continue
to keep the public informed about the
numerous park expansion possibilities.
Recently, the Park Expansion Committee
has been approached with questions
regarding monetary donations to the
cause. Councilman Matthews consulted
the Town Board as to the proper way
to accept these donations. Supervisor
Croce indicated that he would consult the
town accountant, but felt a reserve fund
would be needed. Money placed in a park
expansion reserve fund would be used for
Thomas Felton Park expansion projects
only.
As the park expansion project gains
momentum and support, the Park
Expansion committee is gathering names
of engineers and other professionals they
may want to work with in the future.

to the residential nature of the neighborhood.” They
went on to note that these two proposed projects, “would
further the endangerment and threaten to make this
problem worse.”
The Views project, proposed for 3715-3725 Rte 9W, is
for two mixed use commercial/residential, three story
buildings with office space on the first floor and 22
apartment units located in the upper two floors in each
building.
The Villages is being proposed by Mark Samuelson
and investors in The Village in the Hudson Valley LLC,
for a continuing care retirement community on 53 acres
on the hill opposite the Bridgeview shopping plaza on
Route 9W. It is to include 205 independent living 1,000 sq/
ft residences, a 127 bed care multi-story facility and an
Urgent Care complex.
Dave Barton did not return a phone call for comment

awesome Meet Me in Marlborough campaign,” he said.
Ryan said he has initiated an audit to see how and
where the county spends its tourism dollars, pointing
that Ulster County collects more than a million dollars
in occupancy taxes annually that is plowed back into
promoting the county.
Ryan said he also wants to establish a county-
wide fund to help municipalities fix some of their
infrastructure issues, “at least a matching fund to cover
some percentage of these projects and then align it
with some broader economic goals; that is something
I am definitely looking at.” He is considering a way to
establish a transparent process on how projects can be
put forth, evaluated and prioritized across the county.
“At a minimum that’s the fair and right way to
operate and that I can definitely deliver on,” he said.
Lanzetta said there is a perception in the southern
part of the county, “that everything goes to Kingston.

appreciated.”

mapped out with the help of Plattekill
Highway Superintendent Robert Wager.
The committee is also hoping to invite
Eagle Scouts to consider Thomas Felton
Park for their final projects, providing
a great opportunity for community
involvement.
