By MARK REYNOLDS mreynolds @ tcnewspapers . com
The Agri-tourism alliance Meet Me in Marlborough [ MMiM ] unveiled a completely new brochure at their recent Spring Fling . The circular contains a multitude of color pictures and descriptive listings on a wide variety of local attractions , farms , wineries , Bed & Breakfasts , restaurants , delis and cafes , antique shops , spas , salons and saloons , art galleries , entertainment venues , festivals and businesses as well as a full color map showing their location throughout town . There is even a Harvest Schedule guide to let you know when local produce will begin showing up at area farm stands and grocery stores .
MMiM President Judy Clarke welcomed everyone to the Benmarl Winery for the launch of their new brochure . She said a new slate of officers for MMiM has been working hard to bring out this brochure “ so I hope you will find easy to work with .”
Clarke said the alliance is not about competition but was created to help everyone succeed .
“ Meet Me in Marlborough is the avenue for us to regionally market our farms , our wineries and all of our local businesses ,” she said . “ The greatest thing about Meet Me in Marlborough , I think , is all the friendships that you make .”
Steve Gold , Chief of Staff for NYS Assemblyman Frank Skartados , said this alliance holds a “ very , very special place in his heart . He loves this organization and really appreciates the idea of everybody working cooperatively together and that is the kind of thing that makes towns become something . The Assemblyman firmly believes that Meet Me in Marlborough is the kind of organization that can help Marlborough grow and bring more people in as more people are coming up from the city and enjoying all the beauties that we have here in the Hudson Valley .”
Clarke reserved a special thank you for the Spaccarelli family who own Benmarl Winery where the brochure launch took place .
“ Whenever we ask if we can do something at your place or can you help us with this , they always rise to the occasion ,” she said . “ They have so much enthusiasm for the valley , so much enthusiasm for Meet Me in Marlborough and the winery business .”
Victor Spaccarelli has owned Benmarl for 10 years .
“ We support the community [ and ] are proud to live in such an agricultural environment , its beautiful ,” he said . “ We ’ re here for you and anything we can do for you and the town and Meet Me in Marlborough , don ’ t ever hesitate to ask us . We ’ re here to help , we ’ re here to be involved .”
Clarke thanked Rick Lashinsky , of Graphic Spectrums , and Sheila Mannese for creating the new brochure . Lashinsky said he takes on wide a variety of printed challenges , such as ads , flyers , invitations and also handles the organization ’ s website ; meetmeinmarlborough . com
It was also acknowledged that Rick Remsnyder , head of Ulster County
Tourism , secured a $ 2,500 grant that went towards the cost of the brochure .
MMiM Vice President Sara Higgins said the alliance has helped her small business , Raspberry Fields Farms , and urged others to join , saying “ its a huge benefit to your business .”
Higgins said MMiM has recently hired a professional marketer who will increase the organization ’ s presence on social media , especially on Facebook and Instagram . Emphasis will also be placed on issuing more press releases about MMiM to attract the attention of local and regional print media outlets . Improvements will soon be made to the website and establishing apps to allow easier public access and increased visibility on the internet .
Higgins said they will soon employ a drone to take additional overhead pictures of Milton and Marlboro and the surrounding area as a promotion of the area .
MMiM is also considering building a permanent tourism center at the town park if they are able to procure a NYS grant , with a theme of the farm trails meet the wine trails .
Higgins said MMiM has been invited on July 16 to the annual Hudson Valley Victory Cup event in Pawling that hosts a polo match followed by a farm to table dinner .
“ It would include for us to do sampling and we would be included on all the promotional material . It would be an opportunity to really get our name out there ,” she said .
