T IMES SOUTHERN Marlborough granted rail crossing By MARK REYNOLDS [email protected] At Monday night’s Marlborough Town Board meeting, Supervisor Al Lanzetta announced that the town recently won a ruling to establish an at-grade pedestrian crossing about 25 feet south of the existing crossing on Dock Road by the Milton Landing Park. In November 2018 the Town of Marlborough petitioned for modifications to the crossing and on January 24, 2019 the matter went before Alicia McNally, Administrative Law Judge, Office of Proceedings for the NYS Department of Transportation [DOT]. In her ruling Judge McNally stated that, “I find that the modifications, as described, are wholly within the public interest.” There were several conditions attached to the ruling that the Town, CSX Railroad and the DOT must agree upon: making sure that emergency services, law enforcement and maintenance still have access to the riverfront park. In addition, all entities must make a “good faith effort” to agree upon the appropriate fencing that will run along the western side of the railroad tracks, taking into consideration aesthetic and safety concerns for the public. By MARK REYNOLDS [email protected] Last Saturday morning the Walkway Over the Hudson was closed to pedestrians to allow 1,070 motorcyclists, along with 403 passengers, from nearly 20 motorcycle clubs and community organizations, to ride across the 6,768 foot span, starting at the Ulster Welcome Center on the western side of the bridge. The ride officially kicks off a period of a few months that honors the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Walkway in October 2009. The riders were led by the Hudson Valley Red Knights, a club comprised of current and retired firefighters in Dutchess and Ulster counties and Wheels of Honor, a specially branded police car honoring those in law enforcement who were killed in the line CHECK OUT OUR NEW WEBSITE - WWW.SUTIMESONLINE.COM of duty.
