Last week, Attorney Kyle Barnett, of
Van DeWater and Van DeWater, addressed
the Lloyd Town Board on the work he did
revising the town’s towing law.
He said on April 19 Councilmen Kevin
Brennie and Mike Guerriero met with
him to discuss updating the town’s
current law after the Town Board received
numerous complaints that the existing
law allows some operators on the tow list
more chances than others to be called to
an accident scene. Barnett said he was
under the clear understanding from the
councilmen that he was to proceed with
making draft revisions, which he later
submitted to Supervisor Paul Hansut. He
only found out after finishing the draft,
and billing the town for $1,990, that the
two councilmen had instead sought out
another attorney to do the work.
Guerriero recalled that at the end of the
April meeting he and Brennie were asked
by Barnett to respond by letter or email
to indicate that he should proceed. Both
Councilmen said they did not respond and
thus did not approve his moving forward.
Guerriero pointed out to Barnett that his
bill states, “All the conversations that
were made was with you and [Supervisor]
Paul Hansut. I never gave you the OK.”
Brennie agreed, characterizing the April
meeting with Barnett as “informational”
and one of “just gathering ideas.” He
gave Barnett the benefit of the doubt that
his recollection of the first meeting was
correct “but you never had one phone call
with me, you never had one email with me
[and] you never had one discussion with

County Fairgrounds and are now the
second oldest grilling contest in New
York State.
The Ribfest is hosted by the Highland
Rotary Club and the proceeds are used
to help the local and international
communities in a variety of ways, from
providing school books to students,
ensuring clean water in third world
countries and contributing to the Shelter
Box program that provides emergency
tent structures to disaster stricken
regions in the world. The event program

In addition to the six Ribbers there
