On April 10 a special celebration
dinner was held at Novella’s restaurant
in New Paltz to honor Women in Rotary.
Local Highland Rotarian Christine
Giangrasso was one of six female
honorees in District 7210 that compriseds
59 Rotary Clubs, including 348 women,
spread out across Columbia, Dutchess,
Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland,
Sullivan and Ulster Counties. World-wide
Rotary membership is estimated at 1.2
million people who serve in 34,282 clubs.
Giangrasso pointed out that in 1987
the Supreme Court struck down the
traditional ‘men only’ memberships in
service clubs, mandating that Rotary
must allow women into their ranks. Last
week Giangrasso was honored for her
“Work in Rotary with a District Focus.”
Giangrasso will serve as the District
Governor from July 1, 2018 to June 30,
2019 and promises to vis
