PORTS OF INDIANA-JEFFERSONVILLE
Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville is on the Ohio / Mississippi river system, just minutes from downtown Louisville.
Handling more than 2 million tons of cargo annually, the port is a center for the rapidly growing advanced manufacturing and logistics industries.
The port has 1,057 acres of land with 272 acres available for development and 3,200 feet of riverfront.
In 2023, its annual cargo was 43 % agriculture, 39 % steel and 11 % minerals.
In addition to being home to 27 companies including 15 steel-related businesses, Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville hosts a robust manufacturing and agricultural ecosystem.
It has year-round access to America ' s Inland Waterways System and the Gulf of Mexico as well as direct access to three major interstates( I-64, I-65, I-71) via I-265 and the Louisville Metro ' s major manufacturing and distribution hubs.
The intra-port rail network, local switching and connections to CSX, Norfolk Southern and Louisville & Indiana RR means First Class service and access to all of North America.
In 2024, United Steel Supply LLC announced it will invest up to $ 10 million at Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville to open a steel processing and painting facility, creating as many as 20 jobs. United Steel Supply is one of the largest steel processors and distributors in the country and a joint venture with Indiana-based Steel Dynamics Inc.( SDI), the fourth largest U. S. producer of carbon steel products.
The company purchased a 100,000-square-foot building at 5150 Maritime Road from the port and entered a 75-year land lease on 11.5 acres. The new facility will be located a quarter mile from SDI’ s Jeffersonville facility, which will be a key supplier for the new operation.
A road-rail corridor made possible by a local partnership now connects the port to the east end bridge and 6,000-acre River Ridge Commerce Center.
Ports of Indiana-Jeffersonville has constructed a new high-speed barge loading facility that added 600,000 tons of direct transfer capacity from either truck or rail to barge.
