PAID ADVERTISEMENT “The family business has been here 84 years because of our loyal customers and dedicated employee” Louis Schmitt said he’s pleased to see businesses and restaurants reopening, and he’s hopeful that the Southern Indiana community will withstand the pandemic and come back even stronger than before. “The city has handled this correctly and have tried to keep us safe,” he said. Schmitt Furniture has made the most of the situation, as it has launched a major renovation of its display room that will likely extend into next year. Though the work is ongoing, the business is open for its normal business operations. Patrons of Schmitt Furniture will also notice a colorful new addition to the building’s exterior. Renown artist Andrei Krautsou completed a mural on the side of the structure earlier this year. The mural depicts a woman with blue hair that represents the Ohio River. Her hand is resting on top of the Sherman Minton Bridge. It’s a beautiful addition to New Albany, as Louis Schmitt said supporting downtown is a focal point for the business. Due to the pandemic, Schmitt Furniture was unable to host its third annual birthday bash at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater. Louis Schmitt said they are looking forward to bringing the event back next year as a way to show appreciation for the community and to the customers who have helped the business be so successful for 84 years. “Community involvement is very important to us,” he said. Schmitt Furniture features a wide selection of furniture, mattresses and other items in its downtown New Albany location.
