Schmitt Furniture open and ready
for business in downtown New Albany

It’s certainly been a different year,
as 2020 has been defined by a
pandemic that’s forced businesses
to find creative ways to serve
customers.
But despite the adjustments, Schmitt
Furniture continues to offer high-quality
products, excellent customer service and a
dedication to the New Albany community.
Celebrating 84 years in business, Schmitt
Furniture is committed to continuing
its legacy as a staple of downtown New
Albany commerce.
“The family business has been here 84
years because of our loyal customers and
dedicated employees,” said Zack Schmitt,
who represents the fourth generation of the
family owned furniture store.
“Business is great. Customers are buying
more furniture, so it’s been very positive,”
he said.
Located at the Furniture Corner of State
Street and Main Street in downtown New
Albany, Schmitt Furniture covers a wide
variety of needs including living room,
dining room and bedroom furniture and
extensive inventory of mattresses.
Charles Schmitt opened the furniture
store in 1936. His sons, Bob and Charles
Jr., ran the business for years. Bob’s son,
Louis, became president of Schmitt Furniture
about 15 years ago, and his son, Zack,
continues the tradition of the family owned
and operated establishment.
As customers have trusted Schmitt
Furniture with their needs for over eight
decades, Louis Schmitt said the business
has a responsibility to ensure they feel safe
when shopping at the establishment during
the pandemic.
“We’re playing it safe and protecting our
staff and customers and making sure that
we do our part so that we can all get back
to normal,” he said.
Beyond precautions that are being taken
inside the store, which include a sanitizing
station at each entrance, Schmitt is also
providing touch-less furniture delivery for
customers. The friendly staff at Schmitt
Furniture provides free delivery within 50
miles of the store.
