much as we can be, having conversa-
tions, finding out what the needs are.
We can’t solve them all, but we’re cer-
tainly trying hard to solve as many of
them as we can.”
STUDENT TO EMPLOYEE
Getting trained graduates into the
jobs they want is yet another hurdle.
Enter Kofi Darku.
Hired in December, Darku will
head up the new Career Coaching and
Employer Connections department, a
pilot program launching state-wide at
six campuses, including Sellersburg.
Haire said a few more positions will
soon be filled, giving Darku a staff to
tackle his goals.
“I get to be the person that helps
forge this bridge that does a better job
of raising the profile of our students’
employability, but then also helping
employers realize, hey, we got the stu-
dents ready...,” Darku said. “We’re a
bridge between our Ivy Tech students
and these employers, but to make sure
we’re getting better things from both
sides, more employability, longer,
deeper relationships with employers.”
By spring or summer, the program
will be something the school can brag
about, Haire said.
