s y a w A e v SUPER Gi WIN TIckets N I W Nunney International Horse Trials offer a day out in stunning countryside Top class competitive action is guaranteed at this year’s Kingairloch Highland Estate Nunney International Horse Trials, which take place at Southfield House near Frome on June 17 to 19. The event is staged in the spectacular grounds of the grade II listed Southfield House. The showjumping takes place in the main arena with the house forming a dramatic backdrop and where an array of tradestands are positioned for spectators to browse. Cross country action is across the road where visitors have access to hundreds of acres of unspoilt farmland where they can watch the riders tackle the solid timber fences and dressage is behind the main house, away from the hustle of bustle of a busy competition. The event is a highpoint in the social calendar and includes an eclectic range of delicious food outlets, all positioned around chairs and tables creating a hub for riders and visitors. In the past some of the sport’s top have ridden at the event including Zara Phillips, Harry Meade, Sam Griffiths, Paul Tapner, Jock Paget, Kristina Cook and Izzy Taylor all competing there in the past. New this year is an extended cross country course with an additional field for the intermediate and CIC2* classes. There is also a new trophy, the Lady Bird Rose Bowl, which will be presented to the winning horse and rider in the five-year-old class. Bridget Parker, a renowned horsewoman who rode Cornish Gold to win team gold at the Summer Olympics in Munich in 1972, and finished tenth as an individual, took over as organiser this year. She said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s event. We first ran at Southfield House in 2012, and the event has been growing in popularity. Its great that it attracts so many of the top names from the sport and it provides a wonderful opportunity for people to come along and enjoy a day out in beautiful countryside while watching the exciting sport of horse trials.” Entry to the event is free on Friday and £12 per car on Saturday and Sunday.
