Fantastic weather greeted spectators
for the 2016 Mitsubishi Motors
Badminton Horse Trials held 4-8 May
2016 what was to be a historical event.
Visitor numbers were up by 50% on
the first day that saw the completion of
the Mitsubishi Motors Cup for the BE90
and the BE100 competitors and the
first inspection of Horses (the trot up).
Mitsubishi Motors were commemorating
25 years of sponsorship for the world
famous event that saw the grandstands
packed with eager visitors for the first
dressage day on Thursday after his final
salute huge applauds and cheers went
up for the first rider to go, Ben Hobday
riding Mulrys Error who kick started
a wonderful competition and set the
atmosphere of what was a thrilling day.
Germany’s super cool guy Michael Jung
was on form and ready to tackle the
Rolex Grand Slam of eventing securing
top marks of 34.4 riding LA Biosthetique
Sam that put him in a great position

heading the leader board on day one.
Andreas Ostholt also from Germany
finished second with 38.2 with Francis
Whittington (GB) riding Hasty Imp in
third with a score of 40.0.
the Mirage Pond fence 14-15 that saw
many a mistake from riders as well as
the old favourites such as the Vicarage
V.
On the next day all eyes were on Emily
King, daughter of Olympic rider Mary
King, who stated she was in it to win it
not just take part, as she produced a
fantastic dressage test finishing with a
huge smile and a lovely pat on the neck
for Brookleigh who was rewarded with
a score of 36.4 putting her in to second
place going in to the cross country
phase on the Saturday.
Michael Jung went quite early on in
the competition and stormed his way
over the course executing each fence
with total precision. As he entered the
main arena to jump the last and final
fence the crowd erupted into applause
as he was inside the optimum time by
7 minutes, keeping his dressage score
intact. Andreas Ostholt and his horse
So Is ET jumped clear but added 5.2
time penalties to his dressage mark.
