Apple Pizza
Crust 1 / 2 Box Spice Cake Mix 2 Tblsp melted Butter 2 Tblsp brown sugar 1 Tblsp water 1 Egg
Filling 1 Can apple pie filling
Streusel topping 1 / 2 Cup flour 1 / 2 Cup brown sugar 1 / 4 cup old fashioned rolled oats 4 Tblsp cold butter Pinch of salt
Glaze 3 / 4 cups powdered sugar 3-4 Tblsp heavy cream 1 / 4 tsp vanilla flavoring
Preheat oven to 350 degrees .
Make the streusel by whisking together the flour , sugar , oats , and salt . Work in the butter , mixing until crumbly . I use my hands for this . It ’ s faster than using a fork . Set aside .
Mix ingredients for crust together . Press the mixture into a 12 inch pizza pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray or lined with parchment paper . Lightly spray a piece of plastic wrap and place sprayed side down on dough and press into pan . The mixture is sticky and this trick will help get the job done !
Bake crust for 10-12 mins . All ovens are different , keep an eye on it . Remove from oven and pour apple pie filling over crust . I poured the apple pie filling in a bowl and diced the apples before I added them to the crust . Sprinkle streusel topping over the apples . Bake another 10-12 mins . Remove from oven . While pizza is cooling make the glaze . Mix all ingredients for the glaze together until there are no lumps . Once the pizza has cooled but is still warm , drizzle the glaze over the pizza with a spoon or put the glaze in a ziplock bag , cut a corner and drizzle over pizza . Serve warm .
At the end of the baking I turned the oven to broil to brown the streusel more . BE CAREFUL ! I turned for just a second and about burned the crust . Actually , it did burn in some spots , as you can see from the picture .
Nonetheless , the pizza turned out fine . I may have topped it off with too much glaze which made it a bit too sweet for me . Next time , I will use less glaze or leave it off completely . A scoop of vanilla ice cream is the perfect mate for this dish , and maybe , instead of the glaze , a LITTLE caramel sauce .
