Wedding Cookies Make Perfect Hostess Gifts

I think the recipe name comes from the version for a popular traditional Mexican wedding cookie . But my kids just know and expect me to make these every year during the Christmas holiday season . It is basically a pecan shortbread butter cookie that gains most of its sweetness from the powdered sugar topping . I love to whip up about 5 different cookie recipes in early November and freeze them in small parchment rolls . Then anytime I need a quick homemade gift or dessert platter to take to a gathering , they are ready to thaw slightly and bake . I ’ ve baked these in all different kinds of shapes but the crescent shape is a good size and thickness for a couple of bites that are not too doughy . My kids associate the holidays with these wonderfully simple cookies and are delighted if I surprise them any other time of the year with a platter full . They always disappear quickly and sprinkle faces and hands with powdered sugar !
For Southern Holiday Life , I chose to display the cookies on a tray made of peppermints . It ’ s a fun little project that children can help do ! I included how to make that too !
