Lunch for the Girls

By Holly Shirley
We entertain more beautifully in the South than anywhere else in the world , paying close attention to details and going to much trouble to please our guests . However , even in the South , we have lost the art of the girls ’ lunch . Sure , we meet for lunch at a local deli and grab a sandwich , but the art of entertaining and making lunch an event , has gotten lost in the shuffle of our daily lives . Let ’ s bring some southern romance back into living . You don ’ t have to make everything homemade like your grandmother did , but you can make things special .
An outdoor lunch needs just a few things to be a success :
1 . A beautiful backdrop - which includes anything green .
2 . Good food - doesn ’ t have to be complicated , or even homemade , just delicious and presented well .
3 . A fun table that makes your guests feel special .
4 . Invite interesting guests .
We chose a fabric for the table topper from the Cindy Barganier Collection . Cindy is an incredible interior designer based in Montgomery , AL and has also designed a luscious collection of fabrics that are begging to be hung in homes across the South . It ’ s always good to have a folding table and a white hem stitched table cloth on hand ; that should be as near and dear to any Southern Belle as your black dress and strand of pearls . Three teak folding chairs were easily transportable to the side of the house for set up . For those of you who cannot arrange flowers , put a flowering plant in a brightly colored pot and you have a centerpiece without much fuss or mess .
