What role do you play on the farm ?
I would consider myself as the “ do whatever ” person . I take care of all the paperwork . I order and pick up all of the farm supplies we need and keep everyone moving from field to field . I drive a tractor when needed which is my least favorite job . I haul all of the peanut trailers and keep a check on the cotton processing steps
How did you & Chris get into farming ?
We were both raised on farms and it just seems to be in our blood . Opportunities opened up in 2005 that allowed us to start our own farm and begin our own journey .
And your kids help on the farm ? In what ways ?
The two oldest boys work very hard wherever they are needed . They are our labor force . Their favorite job is , of course , driving the tractors , but they are very willing to help out in any area we need them . They work cows with us and fix any equipment that needs fixing . We would never get everything done without them .
Amanda King is modern day southern belle . She takes pride in the way she looks- eating right , exercising and of course , keeping up with the cutest fashions . But Amanda is also a wife , mother of four and helps full time , getting dirty included , on their family farm in South Alabama .
Are you happy with your farming life ?
There is no better life for us . It is what we live for . Farming is a very hard life because you never know what the year will hold . We depend solely on God because He is the only one that can provide us with the water and sunshine we need to be successful . Faith is very important and we try to make sure that our 4 children understand that without God we would have NOTHING ! I always say that farming is a hard job , but it ’ s the best way to raise a family . We are very close and
I believe it is because we do everything together .
SBM would also like to say congratulations to the King ’ s for a recent achievement . Their family was named ‘ Young Farming Family of the Year ’ in November 2012 in their local area .
