All About ' Our House ' as Our Home
By Christopher Harris SEKYL Editor
Crosby , Stills , Nash and Young sang about " Our House " with two cats in the yard . English ska band Madness sang about " Our House " located in the middle of the street .
For most of us , " Our House " is simply our home — and it doesn ' t get more beautiful than that .
This edition of Southeast Kentucky Life is dedicated to the home itself — how we find them , how we fix them up , and how we make them our own .
Somerset itself is home to a wide array of interesting houses , from stately mansions near Lake Cumberland to historic structures on downtown avenues . One of those belongs to Shirer Burkett , who was on the search for a place to raise her family after leaving the United Kingdom , and fell head over heels for one of the many attractive dwellings located on North Main Street in Somerset . She shares her " love story " with her local home in the pages of this magazine .
If you ' re doing work around the house , you ' ll want to check out the new home of Ace Hardware in the Tradewind shopping center , which we feature this month , and we also put a spotlight on two local real estate professionals who are making the business of helping people find a home a family affair , now working alongside their daughters to help the buyers and sellers of Pulaski County .
Our own bodies are a home of sorts for that which makes us who we are , and sometimes those bodies become less hospitable than we ' d like . One of the ways that happens for women in particular is with a diagnosis of endometriosis , a condition which has a national awareness month dedicated to it in March . We learn more about endometriosis in this magazine , and what individuals facing it can expect — and how they can take care of themselves .
All that and more — including a guide to St . Patrick ' s Day-themed cocktails , " Ask the Readers " responses , and our monthly calendar of upcoming events — can be found housed in this edition of Southeast Kentucky Life . Here ' s hoping you can enjoy it in your very own home — or wherever you happen to pick it up !
