Thrift: Nancy ' s thrift store is a must-visit small business; one of the best in the county

BOB FLYNN Contributing Writer
In a time of skyrocketing prices at the pump and inflation causing grocery prices to rise faster than the national debt, families are constantly looking for ways to make their hard-earned money stretch just a little further in order to make ends meet.
Thrift stores have been a staple on the American landscape for decades and more and more, people are seeking out such opportunities to score a good deal.
Since 2024, the residents of the Nancy community have been blessed to have one of the best thrift stores in the county, Red Barn Thrift, right in their back yard.
Red Barn Thrift is located at 42 Christopher Lane, on the left just before the Dollar General Store and The Rex Restaurant in downtown Nancy.
Owners Melinda and Shawn Roberts have long had a love for going out picking items from yard and garage sales and other places to resell in their booth at the Peddler’ s Mall in Somerset.
They enjoyed it so much they decided to convert a small building they had on some property in Nancy into their own thrift store.
“ We wanted to give the people of Nancy somewhere to shop other than the Dollar General and Family Dollar. A place where they could find good used items at a good price in a friendly family atmosphere,” said Melinda.
Walking into Red Barn Thrift is like stepping back in time to the old time thrift stores from your youth.
Red Barn Thrift has a little bit of everything, vintage items, books, video games, movies, toys, dolls and a large selection of gently used clothing for children, youth, men and women.
