that requires time on their feet, some people can ' t escape the pain associated with that.
" For workers who are on their feet all day, my general ' umbrella ' suggestions would be to A) invest in high quality shoes / inserts, as you get what you pay for in regards to footwear. B) If you have a history of ankle sprains or pain, try an ankle brace. Many patients don ' t realize they have weak / unstable ankles until they ' ve been living with pain long enough to come into clinic. A trial of an ankle brace may solve problems pre-emptively. C) Stretch your calf muscles. Anecdotally, I would say 90 % or more of my patients have tight calf muscles. With the way that your foot functions on a hinge at the ankle, a tight calf muscle can lead to increased pressures across your foot. Taking 15-30 minutes a day to stretch can go a long way in preventing injury."
Dr. Cooperman said that for most cases, those who want to make an appointment to have their feet and ankles evaluated can call a clinic such as Lake Cumberland Orthopedics directly. They do not have to have a referral, he said.
" I would encourage anyone who is actively suffering from foot and ankle pain, whether it is related to a history of sprains, arthritis, or a bunion deformity, to call and get scheduled with us for evaluation," Dr. Cooperman said. " Many times, simple conservative measures can provide a great deal of relief. And when that is unsuccessful or the pain greatly affects activities of daily life, surgery can be what you need to get you back to activity and enjoying a pain free life."
