What is Casey ’ s Law ?
Casey ’ s Law provides a legal means of intervening with someone who is unable to recognize his or her need for treatment due to impairment . This law allows parents , relatives , and / or friends to petition the court for treatment on behalf of the substance abuse-impaired person . Casey ’ s Law was passed in Kentucky in 2004 inspired by Casey Wethington ’ s death of a heroin overdose at age 23 .
