Sparky Claus , a partnership between Sieda and the Ottumwa Fire Department
Sparky Claus trees will be put out with tags for people to adopt a family . Families who qualify for the Sieda heating assistance program are eligible to be a Sparky Claus family and can be signed up through that organization . Trees can be found in locations such as Fareway , North and South Hy-Vee , O ’ Hara Hardware , and Community 1st Credit Union locations . Tags will identify needs of the family , including clothing and shoe sizes as well as dates collections will be taken . Donations can then
be dropped at the Central Fire Station for distribution at Sieda Dec . 17 . Extra donations can also be dropped at the fire station to be set out on a table for families that weren ’ t adopted to be chosen from . Sparky Claus also checks with Ottumwa Schools , Seton Catholic School , Ottumwa Christian School , Cardinal , and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for children in need of coats for the program to donate . Boxes of hats and gloves are also brought to each school . Watch for fundraisers to support that program . Tax-deductible donations can be made out to Sparky Claus and mailed to the Central Fire Station at 201 N . Wapello St ., Ottumwa , Iowa 52501 .
