Samaritan ’ s Purse is calling on churches and families to pack shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child . Simply pack shoeboxes with school supplies , hygiene items and fun toys and bring them to a drop-off location during National Collection Week . Operation Christmas Child also offers an option to virtually pack a shoebox gift on their website . A giving tree will provide new gloves , mittens , socks and scarves , free of charge . Those who need support are free to take what they need to use for warmth over the blustery winter months . Items can also be added to the tree for those who wish to donate .
