Chilled water arrives in a gold-tipped, stemless glass. Refreshments are on offer for patients to ease anxiety. Smooth jazz plays in the background, and everyone is friendly. This is not your typical dentist’s office. The customer experience at Beyond Exceptional Dentistry is unlike anything in the industry. Nerves are calmed, patients are listened to, and lives are changed. The staff tends to patients like they’re clients at a spa. And this is all before clients even begin their new patient intake session — a signature of their unprecedented process. For patients who’ve struggled with dental issues their whole lives, the sessions can be life-changing. They take place in a serene exam room with custom-made chairs, natural lighting and tall, sliding doors that open to a lush courtyard — all intended to reduce discomfort and stress. Jenni Moseley, the new patient coordinator at Beyond Exceptional Dentistry, has perfected the process. The session begins with a consultation where Moseley talks through what patients want. “Our visits are very eye-opening and sometimes overwhelming,” Moseley says. She takes “before” and “after” pictures, using spacers and dental wax to gently manipulate patients’ jaws into alignment. The images are then photoshopped in real-time, so patients can see their new smile — one they’ve been waiting for their whole lives. It’s not uncommon for patients to get emotional. “We learn about “The results have been nothing short of a miracle. My friends said I looked 15 years younger but they were not sure why.” SMILING STYLE Dr. Ryan Reeves has revolutionized the aging process. He has created a technique that truly is nothing short of Beating Father Time WRITTEN BY MOLLY CLANCY / PHOTOGRAPHY BL AKE CROSBY 22 SOUTH August|September 2019 the health of their mouth, the level of prevention they want to achieve, their smile and any concerns they have,” Moseley says. “We decide together where they want to be, then we use that to drive our education. This is where all of the decisions are made.” The “after” photos also take years off — a ground-breaking way to think about dentistry, pioneered by Dr. Ryan Reeves. Reeves, a relative newcomer to Savannah, continues the legacy started by Brad Durham, taking aesthetic dentistry to new heights and drawing clients from across the country. “You have to start asking, ‘why?’” Reeves says. “As dentists, we’re trained to focus on the problem, but not why that problem is happening. Patients have come in who’ve been told they need to have all their teeth removed. It didn’t make sense to me. It couldn’t be the only option. I started doing research, and I realized it was going to be a game-changer. We could help a lot of people.” That game-changer is Reeves’ holistic, physiological, “beating father time” approach. “If treatments need to be done to correct functional problems and the byproduct is a younger-looking face, it’s a win-win,” says Reeves. Reeves explains the philosophy behind his approach, “When things are out of balance — joints, muscles, nerves — then problems happen. What I’m doing is looking at the underlying problems. We see a lot of people who’ve had other dentists tell them they need to have invasive surgery. We are usually able to fix the issue and get them to a much healthier place in ways they never expected.”
