Na Hye-sok
Na Hye-sok (1896-1946) Korean feminist writer,
activist, painter and poet. Openly critiqued the early
20th century marital institution and worked hard
to change unhygienic and impractical traditional
clothing Korean women were obliged to wear.
Best known for her short story Kyonghui published in
1918. Groundbreaking, it concerns so-called modern
woman’s self discovery, where the female heroine
aspires to get herself educated and independent
and to create a fulfilling life for herself, regardless
of the opposition she meets.
